Southampton’s beautiful seaside location in the south of England makes it a great holiday destination any time of the year. There are plenty of museums to keep you busy during the colder months and nature and theme parks which will entertain when the weather allows it. Southampton airport allows easy access to all of the area’s major attractions.
SeaCity Museum
Located on the south coast of the UK, Southampton has a rich maritime history which is captured in this fantastic museum. Southampton is where the Titanic set sail and the museum gives the doomed vessel the special attention it deserves, telling the life story of the ship. Solent Sky Museum
If your interests lie in the skies then Southampton also has a museum that depicts the region’s history in aviation. Special focus is given to the Supermarine Aircraft Company which is based in Southampton. There are around 20 aircraft n display as well as engines. Check out their website for more information.
National Motor Museum
And… if your interests are in the land then you’re in luck again! Southampton is near Beaulieu home to the world-famous National Motor Museum. There are plenty of famous movie cars on display including the flying Ford Anglia from Harry Potter as well as World in Motion, the world’s largest display of James Bond vehicles. West Quay Shopping Centre
Located in Southampton’s city center, this shopping mall is home to over 100 shops including many name-brand places. If you want to get a bit of shopping done on your visit then West Quay makes a great choice.
The New Forest
While there’s plenty to keep you busy in Southampton itself, you’d regret not making the 30-minute trip to the New Forest to spend your time hanging out with wild ponies, donkeys, and deer. That’s not to mention the walkers, hikers, and cyclists also enjoying the unique scenery in this area.
Not exactly new, the ‘New’ Forest has over 1,000 years of history and, because it’s not suitable for agriculture, it’s one of the few parts of England that has remained untouched since Norman times.
Paulton’s Park
Also located a short distance from Southampton is Paulton’s Park covering over 140 hectares and features over 80 species of birds and animals to go along with the 60 rides and attractions. It’s a great day out for a family with rides that cater to children to go along with the many opportunities for exploring nature.
